Americans will receive Social Security payments in March and April 2025, and some may qualify for an extra $967 per month through Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
With rising utility costs, these benefits can provide much-needed relief to cover electricity, gas, and water bills.

Who Gets Social Security Payments in March & April?
The Social Security Administration (SSA) will distribute payments based on birth dates:
- March 12 – For those born between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- March 19 – For those born between the 11th and 20th.
- March 26 – For those born between the 21st and 31st.
Some retirees and disabled individuals could receive up to $5,180, depending on their work history.

Can You Get an Extra $967 in SSI?
In addition to Social Security benefits, SSI provides extra cash for those who qualify. You may be eligible if you:
- Are 65 or older or have a qualifying disability.
- Have limited income and resources.
- Meet SSA eligibility guidelines.
The less income you have, the higher your SSI payment could be. If you earn too much, you may not qualify.
Use Your Benefits to Lower Utility Bills
With energy costs rising, your Social Security and SSI payments can help cover utility expenses. Many beneficiaries also qualify for utility assistance programs, such as:
- LIHEAP – Helps pay heating and cooling bills.
- Utility Discount Programs (UDP) – Offers reduced electricity, gas, and water rates.
- Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) – Lowers energy bills through home improvements.
